I guessed? So quiet, I’m here to help you! With today’s guide, in fact, I’ll explain how to put music on YouTube without infringing copyright and continue to publish your videos without further problems.

There are many solutions you can consider to use music in your videos without incurring copyright infringement: for example you can take advantage of the features of YouTube that let you know if a song is usable for their videos and allow the monetization of the latter, you can take advantage of the library of free songs made available by the famous video portal or, alternatively, you can rely on one of the many websites that host tracks with Creative Commons license (which can be used freely in their videos at no cost).

I can assure you that, in the first place, you will be able to create your videos by adding music without infringing YouTube’s copyright and policies. I have nothing left to wish you happy reading!

How to put music on YouTube without infringing copyright – How to know if a song infringes the copyright

How to put music on YouTube without infringing copyright

Uploading a YouTube video containing a famous song may violate the copyright and cause unpleasant consequences, such as reporting and removing the video itself or, in case of repeated violations, even closing the YouTube channel.

But you must know that the famous video sharing and viewing platform has introduced a system to find out how to use a particular song, even if it is copyrighted. So if you’re wondering if you can put music in YouTube videos, the answer is yes. How to do? I’ll explain it to you right away.

Connect to the YouTube site and click on the Log in button at the top right, then select the Google account that you usually use to access YouTube, enter the password and presses the Next button to complete the login. If you’re reading this tutorial for information and you do not yet have a Google Account, you can read my guide on how to create a Google Account.

Now, click on your photo in the top right (or on the circle with the silhouette of a little man if you have not customized your account) and presses on the voice Creator Studio to access the section to manage your videos, create a live and check the statistics and information on your channel.

In the left sidebar, select the Create option and click on the Music rules item to view a list with millions of songs that can be used on YouTube. If you want to know how to use a particular song, enter the title in the Search for music field and click the icon of a magnifying glass (or press the Enter key on your keyboard) to start the search.

Among the search results, find the song you are interested in and click on the down arrow (located to the left of the song title) to display the usage information. Under the heading If you use this song you can view the terms of use of the song in your videos, while under the option If you perform a cover you can find useful information if you intend to upload your own interpretation of the song on YouTube. In particular, two options are visible.

  • Reproduction: indicates the countries in which the video will be visible if it contains the chosen track. Viewable worldwide indicates that your video will have no restrictions, while Viewable items everywhere except [number] Countries and Blocked in [country name] indicate that the video will be visible worldwide except countries indicated.
  • Monetization: indicates whether the video containing the song can be monetized or not. The status You can not monetize this video means that you will not be able to earn money through that movie (the author of the song will do), while Eligible for revenue sharing means you can monetize the video but the revenue will be shared with the copyright owner of the song used.

If you’ve searched for a song and the proposed result is This song can not be used in your YouTube videos. If you use this song, your video may be blocked or the sound may be muted, you may well understand that it is highly discouraged to use it.

If, on the other hand, the search did not bear fruit and you saw the word No correspondence found, it means that the owner of the copyright of the song did not require the monetization of the content, so you can use the song in your video and monetize it without violating the copyright. Keep in mind that if the author of the song in the future will join the monetization of the song, the rules of its use may change and your video may encounter some problems.

You can monitor the copyright status and community policy status of your YouTube channel via the Creator Studio section by clicking on the Channel and Status and Feature entries in the left sidebar.

How to put music on YouTube without infringing copyright – How to choose a song

How to put music on YouTube without infringing copyright

Choosing a song to use in a video on YouTube is an extremely important procedure to attract the attention of the viewer, however the choice is subjective and varies to personal taste. Even more important than its musical tastes, is the choice of a song that is suitable for their needs in terms of video monetization and respect for copyright.

If you are not a YouTube partner and have not enabled monetization of your videos, you may want to consider using a famous song as outlined above, without worrying that the video is not monetized. Make sure that the movie containing the chosen song is not blocked globally, then you can download the song through one of the digital download services as indicated in my guide on how to download music.

If you do not want to miss the monetization of your videos, you should know that on YouTube you can find thousands of free songs to use in your movies without infringing the copyright. Then connect to the YouTube site and access your channel, then click on your photo in the upper right corner and presses on the Creator Studio option. Now, select the Create item in the left sidebar and click on the Audio Collection option to access the YouTube audio library.

You can find a song by title by typing it in the Search for music field, for Genre (Ambient, Classical, Christmas, Pop, Reggae, Rock etc), for Atmosfera (Angry, Calm, Gloomy, Happy etc), for Instrument (Archi, Basso, Batteria , Piano, Trumpet etc.) and for Duration. Once you have found the track you are interested in, press the ▶ ︎ button to start playing it, click on the star icon to add it to your favorites or the down arrow icon to download it to your computer.

If the icon of a little man enclosed in a circle appears next to the chosen song, in its description you will see the text You can freely use this song and monetize your video, but you must include the following in the video description, which means you can freely use the song but you have to mention the original artist in the acknowledgments in the description of your video. You can view the songs without or with attribution by pressing the Attribution item and selecting one of the options available between Attribution not requested and Attribution requested.

Alternatively, in the YouTube audio library there are also numerous sound effects to download and use for free in your videos. Then select the Sound Effects tab and press the ▶ ︎ button to listen to the sound effect you choose: if you like it, you can click on an arrow icon pointing down to start the download and press on the icon of a star to add the sound effect to the favorite list you can access by selecting the Favorites item in the main menu.

If you’re looking for a sound effect, you can search by name by typing it in the Search for sound effects field and pressing a magnifying glass icon. Alternatively, click on the Category item and select one of the many categories of sound effects available such as Animals, Weapons, Horror, Weather, Noise, Sports, Transportation, Office, Human voices and many others.
