How to change writing on WhatsApp

Although you are a WhatsApp user for some time, you have not yet become familiar with all the features of this famous messaging app and, specifically, you have trouble formatting the text of your messages. Not being able to write words in bold or italic, you looked for information on how to change writing on WhatsApp and so you ended up again on my blog. Well, I’m happy to tell you that you’ve come to the right place once again!

In the following paragraphs, in fact, I will explain to you in detail how to format the text you type in your chats and, for completeness of information, I will also show you how to change the writing of WhatsApp State, as well as explain how to change the sentence present in the so-called “Info” (better known as “text status”).

How to format message text on WhatsApp

Do you want to write a message in bold or italicized but you can not find the appropriate function that allows you to do this? Quiet, following the instructions in the next paragraphs you will not have any problem to format the text of WhatsApp messages neither on Android nor on iPhone or PC.

Android



To format the text of the messages sent on WhatsApp from Android, start the application of the famous instant messaging platform, locate the chat in which you want to send a message and digit in the Write a message bar.

After writing the message you want to send to the selected recipient, double tap the word or phrase you want to format press on the symbol (…) in the menu that appears and select the Bold, Italic, Strikethrough or Monospaced option, depending on how you want to format the text.

Alternatively, if you want, you can use the following formatting to write a message in bold, italic, strikethrough or with monospace font.

  • Bold – * Message text *

 

  • Italic – _Text of the message_

 

  • Strikethrough – ~ Message text ~

 

  • Monospaced – “ `Message text“`

After writing the message and formatting it following the instructions I gave you a moment ago, send it by pressing on the symbol of the airplane and the recipient will see the text in the format you want. iOS

To format the text of the messages sent by iOS, however, start the official app of WhatsApp, select the chat of your interest and type the message to be formatted in the input bar.

Then select the message by double tap on it and press on the B I U that appears on the screen. Now, in the menu that opens, select the option Bold, Italic, Strikethrough or Monospaced, depending on how you want to format the text of your message and you’re done.

In addition to the formatting menu that I just talked about, WhatsApp for iPhone allows you to write messages in bold, italic, crossed out and with monospaced characters using the following symbols: (*), to write in bold; (_), to write in italics; (~), to write crossed out or (`), to write in monospaced characters. The correct formatting to use is as follows.

  • Bold – * Message text *

 

  • Italic – _Text of the message_

 

  • Strikethrough – ~ Message text ~

 

  • Monospaced – “ `Message text“`

Once you have typed the message and formatted it, send it to the recipient by pressing on the airplane symbol. For more details on how to format a message on WhatsApp, read the study I published on the subject.

PC

Do you want to format the messages you send on WhatsApp from PC? Well, even if you can not take advantage of a specific menu that allows you to do this, you can still write in bold, italic, strikethrough, etc. using the symbols (*), (_), (~) and (`) before and after the word or phrase you want to send to one of your contacts. You can do this, whether you use WhatsApp Web from your browser or the official WhatsApp client.

If using WhatsApp Web you are asked to scan the special QR Code, follow the simple instructions that you see on the screen to configure the service in the correct way: start the WhatsApp app on your device, go to its Settings, make tap on the option that allows you to use the WhatsApp Web service and scan the QR Code through the camera of your device. Now, find the chat in which you want to send the message and write it in the typing bar. In doing so, use the following formatting to write in bold, italic, strikethrough or monospaced.

  • Bold – * Message text *

 

  • Italic – _Text of the message_

 

  • Strikethrough – ~ Message text ~

 

  • Monospaced – “ `Message text“`

How to change writing on the State of WhatsApp

Do you want to change the status of WhatsApp by selecting the font and background color that you prefer the most? No problem, you can use the special buttons provided by WhatsApp on Android and iPhone (at the time of writing, you can not change the WhatsApp status from PC).

Android

To choose the font and background color of the WhatsApp Status on Android, first start the official app of the service, tap on the Status tab (above) and press on the gray pencil symbol on a white background (bottom right) .

In the screen that opens, type the phrase you want to publish on your state, tap the symbol of the T (lower left) to select one of the five available fonts and press on the symbol of the palette to change the background color. If you are satisfied with the result, publish the state by tapping on the airplane symbol (bottom right).

If, instead, you want to publish in your State a photo containing some text superimposed, presses the symbol of the white camera on a green background (bottom left, a little ‘below the symbol of the gray pencil) and choose the photo you want to use on your state by selecting one from the gallery or, alternatively, take a picture at the moment by pressing on the symbol of the central ring.

Now, press on the symbol of the T (top right), type the word or phrase you want to use, change the color by sliding your finger on the colored bar located on the right and press the symbol (v) to imprint it on the image. If you wish, move the writing to where you want to drag it with your finger and zoom in or out by opening or closing your thumb and forefinger. As soon as you are satisfied with the result, tap the airplane located at the bottom right to publish the update.

iOS

To choose the font and background color of WhatsApp Status on iOS, start the app of the same name on your iPhone, tap on the Status item (bottom left) and press on the pencil symbol placed at the bottom of your name to create a “textual” state.

In the screen that opens, type the text you want to publish in your State, presses the symbol of the T (top right) to select one of the available fonts, tap the palette symbol (always top right) to change the background color and publish the state by pressing the symbol of the airplane on a light blue background (bottom right).

If, on the other hand, you want to create a state containing a photo with overlay text, tap the camera symbol (still in the Status menu) and choose a photo from the gallery or click one at the moment by pressing the ring symbol.

At this point, tap the T icon (top right), type with the keyboard the text you want to imprint on the image and change the color by sliding your finger on the colored bar on the right. If you want, move the writing by dragging it with a finger anywhere in the image and zoom in or out by opening or closing your thumb and index finger. When the work is finished, publish the image containing the modified text by pressing the symbol of the airplane on a light blue background (bottom right).

How to change the WhatsApp info

Want to change the phrase “Hello! I’m using WhatsApp “which is set by default in the WhatsApp Info, to replace it with a nice quote or with the activity you are doing at any given time? No problem, just find the setting that allows you to do this, choose the phrase to be included in your WhatsApp info and you’re done. Now I’ll explain to you how to find the setting in question on Android, iPhone and PC.

Android

To change the Info of WhatsApp on Android, first start the app of the known instant messaging platform, presses the symbol (…) located at the top right and, in the menu that appears, select the option Settings.

In the screen that opens, presses on your profile picture and tap the phrase you typed, which is under the heading Info and phone number. Now, change the current info by choosing one from the menu that appears below (eg Available, Busy, At school, etc.) or, alternatively, type a custom phrase: to do so, presses the gray pencil symbol and, in the Add Info screen, type the phrase you want to use.

After writing the phrase you want to appear in your info, tap the OK button to save the changes you have made. Have you seen how simple it was to modify your WhatsApp info?

iOS

To change the WhatsApp info on iOS, however, start the instant messaging service app, presses the Settings item (the gear symbol located at the bottom right) and, in the screen that appears, tap on your name to access the Edit Profile section.

At this point, presses the sentence located under the heading Info and, in the next screen, select a new info by choosing one of the available phrases. Alternatively, create a custom info by tapping the phrase under the Currently set as and typing the custom phrase in the editor that appears on the screen (you can use up to a maximum of 139 characters, including spaces). Finally save the phrase using the appropriate command located at the top right.

PC

Do you want to change your WhatsApp info from PC? Whether you use the WhatsApp Web service from your favorite browser or you have downloaded the official WhatsApp client on your PC, you will be able to complete the task in just a few minutes, trust me.

If you are using WhatsApp Web for the first time, you will be asked to scan the appropriate QR Code. To do this, simply follow the instructions on the screen: start the WhatsApp app on your device, go to its Settings , tap on the option that allows you to use the WhatsApp Web service and scan the QR code through the camera of your device. To change the WhatsApp info on the PC, however, click on your profile picture (above) and, in the screen that opens, click on the pencil icon located in the Info box. Then type the phrase you want to appear in the your WhatsApp info and, to save the changes made, click on the symbol (v) or press the Enter button from the keyboard.
