How to connect Chromecast
You’ve heard about the possibility of transmitting audio / video content from a device to your TV in a very simple way. You have informed yourself around and you have discovered the existence of Google Chromecast. You have bought this technological item and now you wonder if those items that confirmed an immediate and fast installation are true. In reality it is so. Chromecast is a device that requires very few installation and configuration steps; you’ll see that you’ll be really stunned, when I’ll show you the installation procedure shortly. Now that you have bought it, you also ask yourself what actual use you could make of it. Would you like to know how to exploit its full potential? I am ready to answer all your questions and I will do it in this tutorial. You must know that Google Chromecast is a device that uses wireless technology (called Google Cast) to receive, from other devices, a whole range of multimedia content. These can be of any kind, such as music from Spotify or Youtube, movies and TV series from sites and apps like Netflix or simple screens of your PC, like a page you are browsing. The only requirement is that your TV has an HDMI input; the contents will be transmitted thanks to the help of the Wi-Fi home network.During this tutorial I will explain how to connect the chromecast so you can use your smartphone or tablet with Android or iOS operating system and transmit all the content you want on your TV, via Chromecast. I’ll also explain how to use your computer’s Google Chrome browser to make the initial setup. After this brief introduction, we do not waste any more time and immediately begin to get to the heart of the subject. I wish you a good read!

How to connect Chromecast – How to install Google Chromecast

How to connect Chromecast

The connection of the Chromecast to the TV takes very little time. The first thing to do is turn on the TV and select from your remote control the HDMI output on which you want to install Chromecast (eg HDMI output or HDMI 1 or HDMI 2).

After opening the package, grab the Chromecast (the small circular device) and connect it to the TV through the HDMI port. Now it is however necessary to feed it. Then extract the supplied USB cable from the box and connect the mini-USB end to the Chromecast. If you have a TV with a USB port (which is not a USB service), you can connect the other USB end to this port. If not, take its power supply from the package and connect the USB end to it. Chromecast Ultra devices can not be connected to the USB port on the TV and therefore require direct power to the wall outlet.

What if, though you have connected the Chromecast to the HDMI port of the TV, this does not work? If your TV does not have an HDMI port, do you need to change TV to use Chromecast? I answer these questions immediately by telling you that there are commercially available HDMI converters that allow you to convert a VGA or SCART port to an HDMI on your TV. In general, Chromecast also supports these converters, provided they are equipped with HDCP protection. This acronym stands for High-Bandwith Digital Content Protection, ie protection for digital piracy; therefore, if you want to use an HDMI converter, do not make sure that Google Chromecast works properly. Also, if the HDMI on your TV does not support HDCP, it will be unusable even in this case.

Returning to the procedure, you will now be able to see the initial Chromecast screens on your TV screen, until you get to a screen that will ask you to install the Google Home app on your Android or iOS mobile device or you will be asked to act on your computer .

In case you have problems accessing this screen, do not be alarmed. Press and hold the small and unique button on the side of the Chromecast, until it starts to flash intermittently and will change from orange to white. This will reset your Chromecast to factory settings to restart the initialization process.

How to connect Chromecast – Configuration via Android / iOS device

How to connect Chromecast

The first choice that is made available to you is to use your smartphone or tablet. Whether it has the Android or iOS operating system, you will be asked to download the Google Home app from their respective Stores. Google Home is a Google application required to set up Chromecast, Nest, and all supported devices for Google Assistant.

First, download the app from the PlayStore (for Android devices) or the App Store (for those iOS) on your device. When the download is complete, tap the Open button. When you first open the application, tap Start and choose the Google account to access the service. Then press Ok to proceed to the next screen. You will be prompted for access to the location: tap then on Next and tap Allow on the consent window to use the GPS. Then enable geolocation on your device to complete the initial setup of the Google Home app.

Let’s start the real Google Chromecast configuration now. Tap on the icon at the top right (symbol of a screen with a chest next to it). You will be shown a screen with the devices to be configured or currently in use. You should then view the Chromecast you previously connected to the TV. I recommend that you do not turn off the TV, otherwise the configuration process may not be successful.

Then tap on the word Configure and then on Continue and then on Next. You will be shown a code on the screen of your device and on the TV screen. Make sure the displayed code is the same on both sides and then tap Yes to confirm.

Before finishing the setup, Google Home will ask you where your Chromecast was installed, such as Bedroom or Master Bedroom. Then choose one of the places you see listed on the screen and tap the Next button. Now is the time to set up the Wi-Fi network through which Google Chromecast will have to connect independently in the future. Choose the network and tap Next. In the next screen you will be asked if you want to use the Wi-Fi network you have chosen as default for future and any devices that you configure: if you want to consent, activate the box in the middle of the screen and tap Ok.

We’re almost there, we’re nearing the end of the Google Chromecast setup process. Tap on Continue and on the next screen, decide if you want to receive communications from Google. Then tap on Ignore or on Register. Once the procedure is complete, you will be shown a summary of what was done with the configuration. Then confirm everything by tapping Continue.

If you want to see a tutorial to understand how Google Chromecast works and how to stream the audio / video from a device, follow the tutorial on the screen or tap Ignore tutorial.

The process seems long and complex, but in reality it is easier than it seems. I hope you have followed all the steps shown on this guide to avoid being stuck in any screen. From now on you can use your Chromecast to make your TV Smart and transmit all the content from your mobile or computer devices.

How to connect Chromecast – Computer configuration

How to connect Chromecast

If you do not want to use your smartphone or tablet to set up Google Chromecast, then you can use your computer. However, I warn you that you will need to install the Google Chrome browser, without which you will not be able to proceed with the computer configuration procedure. You can download Google Chrome for free on both Windows and MacOS and Linux computers. If you need more explanation, I can advise you to read my guide how to download Google Chrome for free where I explain how to download and install Google Chrome on the operating systems that I just mentioned. I also remind you to carry out the procedure using a laptop or in any case a computer that has access to the Wi-Fi network. Access from a wired network (ethernet) does not guarantee a positive result in detecting your Chromecast.

Then open your Chrome browser and go to the official Chromecast setup page. The page will suggest you to download the app for Android or iOS, but, a little further down, you can start the configuration process through your PC. Then click on the hooked link to configure your Chromecast device to get started. Wait for the Chromecast device to be found and press the yellow Configure button, located at the bottom. In the next screen, you must give consent to the conditions of use of Chromecast, otherwise you will not be able to proceed with its configuration. Choose whether or not to send to Google the usage data that you make of your Chromecast, possibly putting, in case of your consent, the check mark on the box Send to Google the usage data and reports on crashes. Then click on Accept to continue.

Now wait for the end of the configuration, until a code appears on your computer screen, which you will have to check if it matches the one shown on the TV screen. If so, click the button on the right Yes. Now enter the name you want to give to your Chromecast, using the Device name field and confirm with the button on the right.

In the next screen, you will be directed to the configuration section of the Wi-Fi access data. Then choose the Wi-Fi network from the drop-down menu (if different from the one currently used by you) and enter the password, then confirm everything by using the button on the right Connect.

Then wait for Chromecast to complete the configuration by connecting to the Wi-Fi network. The procedure will be completed when a box appears on the screen, with the name you assigned to your Chromecast, and a Ready to transmit message.

If you have problems with your Chromecast or you just want to change some data set during configuration, such as the device name or the data of the Wi-Fi access network, click on the gear symbol, which is located in the corner to the right of the frame. You will be directed to a page where you can change the device name, Wi-Fi network, time zone, time format and device language. In addition you will have buttons to restart the Chromecast or reset from the factory settings.
