How to unlock Huawei

Unfortunately I can not guarantee that at the end of the procedure you will have your data still available (almost surely you will have to format your smartphone), but I guarantee you that you will still be able to access Android and use the device freely. Good reading and good luck for everything!
How to unlock Huawei – Unlock by Google account
How to unlock Huawei
If you use a very old terminal, which has an operating system Android 4.4 or earlier, you should be able to unlock the device simply by mistaken the PIN (or password) five consecutive times and then selecting, from the screen that opens, the option related to forgotten pattern. You then choose to log in using Google credentials and you should be able to log in again to the system. If you do not even remember the password of your Google account, find out how to recover Google account thanks to my post dedicated to the topic.
How to unlock Huawei – Android Device Management
The first solution that I advise you to try is to connect to this web page, log in to your Google account and click on the name of your smartphone first and then on the item Activate, Block and Reset which is located in the left sidebar : in this way you will have access to the Android Device Manager, the Google anti-theft service (completely free) that allows you to locate Android devices, block them with a code (if there is not already the unlock PIN enabled) and format them remotely (the function that interests you most).
How to unlock Huawei
To reset your phone remotely and then cancel the current unlock PIN or password, click on the Reset item in the left sidebar of the Android Device Manager, by confirming pressing the Reset button (also located in the same position) and wait for the device to be restored.
Once the reset is complete, you will be able to log in to your phone again by logging in with your Google account and then going through the initial Android setup process again. If you do not remember your Google Account login password or would like more information on how to unlock Google accounts on Android, take a look at my tutorial on the subject.
How to unlock Huawei – Formatting by Recovery
If you can not reset your smartphone via Android Device Manager (maybe because you did not activate the service or because you forgot your login credentials to your Google account), you can reset the device, and then delete the PIN or password request , through Recovery.
The Recovery, if I had never heard of it, is software that acts outside the operating system (so it is accessible even when you can not enter Android) and allows you to perform various operations, including deletion of data and restore of Android to factory status.
To access the Recovery of your Huawei smartphone, hold down the Power + Volume (+) keys until the phone reboots and enters, in fact, in Recovery mode. In the screen that opens, use the Volume (+) and Volume (-) keys to highlight the wipe data / factory reset option and the Power button to confirm (by selecting yes) and restore Android.
How to unlock Huawei
When the phone is restarted (reboot can be done by selecting the Reboot system now from Recovery), you will find a “clean” Android system, to be configured as if you had just removed the phone from the sales package. You will no longer find your apps and data, but if you previously enabled Google’s backup features, you can restore contacts, photos and other information by taking advantage of the latter. More info about it is contained in my guide on how to make an Android backup.
If you need more information on how to access Recovery and reset your smartphone through it, search for video tutorials on YouTube and / or consult my tutorial on how to reset Huawei.
How to root on a Huawei smartphone
How to unlock Huawei
Want to know how to unlock a Huawei phone because you want to root on your device? No problem, if you want I can give you a hand: it is a procedure a bit ‘long but not overly complex. Let’s see, together, all the steps that need to be done.
How to unlock Huawei – Preliminary operations
How to unlock Huawei
- Data backup – the root itself does not lead to the deletion of data on the device, but the unlocking of the bootloader (operation without which it is not possible to root) yes, so I invite you to save all your files in a safe place (eg PC or external SD card) and to activate cloud backup systems. Find out how to do it in my guide on how to make an Android backup.
- Activating developer options – to be able to run root, you need to connect your smartphone to your computer via USB debugging mode. To enable USB debugging mode, you must first make the Developer Options menu visible in Android settings. Go then in the menu Settings> Info on your device and presses on the item Serial number for seven consecutive times, until you see the notification about the activation of the developer options.
- Enabling USB debugging – Once the USB debugging mode is enabled, go to the Settings> Developer Options menu and move the lever for the USB debugging option to ON.
- Activating the manufacturer release – another function that you need to enable in the Settings> Developer Options menu is the one relating to the Manufacturer Release. Then move the relevant lever to ON and answer Activate the warning that appears on the screen.
- Disabling Huawei location services – if you have enabled location services in your Huawei account settings, disable them. Just go to the Settings menu> Huawei ID of your smartphone. You do not need to turn off Google location services (Android Device Manager).
- Installing Huawei drivers on your PC – if you have not already done so, install the drivers to connect your smartphone to your computer. The drivers are located within the HiSuite program, which you can download directly from here. If you need information on how to connect Huawei to your PC, read the guide I have dedicated to the subject.
- Checking the battery charge – before starting, make sure you have at least 60-70% of the remaining battery charge.
How to unlock Huawei – Download Huawei Multi-Tool
How to unlock Huawei
If you have implemented all the above instructions, you are ready to unlock your Huawei smartphone by running the root. For this purpose, I recommend you download Huawei Multi-Tool: a small free program available for Windows systems, thanks to which you can root on Android, unlock the bootloader of the smartphone and perform many other useful operations on Huawei devices in a manner very simple.
Huawei Multi-Tool is officially compatible with Huawei P9, Huawei P10 Lite, Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei Nova, Huawei GR5 2017, Huawei GT3, Huawei Mate 9, Huawei Mate 8, Huawei Mate 7, Honor 4x, Honor 4c, Honor 5x, Honor 5c, Honor 6, Honor 6x, Honor 7, Honor 8, Honor 8 Pro, Honor 9, and Hw / Ho 8 Lite, but can also be used with unlisted devices (eg Huawei P9 Lite) to unlock the bootloader and to perform the root using packages to be downloaded separately.
To download the program on your PC, connect to the XDA forum and click on the first link under the Filename entry, for example Huawei_Multi-Tool_by_Team_MT_v7.1.zip. When the download is complete, open the zip package you downloaded on your PC and extract the contents in any folder. I recommend the folder C: to avoid any errors that may occur by extracting the software in different paths, but it’s up to you to choose.
How to unlock Huawei – Unblock the bootloader
Now you have to unblock the bootloader which, as mentioned above, is an operation without which it is not possible to root on Huawei smartphones. If I had never heard of it, the bootloader is the software that runs when the phone is switched on and provides it with all the instructions necessary to start the operating system (Android). It is usually locked, so it does not allow the installation of the components necessary to root and must be unlocked. The procedure is quite simple, also because they are the same hardware manufacturers (in this case Huawei) to allow it, but you have to know that it invalidates the warranty and makes delete all the data on your smartphone.
If you are still willing to continue, connect to this page of the website of Huawei and login with the data of your Huawei ID (by copying the verification code in the Verification code field). If, after entering the email address, you get a warning on the screen, click on the OK button. If, however, you do not yet have a Huawei account, create it directly on your smartphone or via this web page. After logging in, you may be asked to enter a verification code: then click on obtain code, access your box e-mail and find the code that was sent to you by email, and then type it on the Huawei site.
How to unlock Huawei
On the page that opens after logging in to the Huawei site, put the check mark next to the item I have read and accept all terms above, click on the Next button and fill out the form that is proposed to you.
In the drop-down menu at the top, it indicates if you are using a terminal with a version of EMUI prior to 5.0 (Before EMUI 5.0) or even or after 5.0 (Since EMUI 5.0), while in the second menu you must make sure there is selected the Smartphone option. The rest of the fields must be completed as follows.
- Product model – you must enter the model number you find in the Settings> Info menu on your smartphone phone (eg HUAWEI VNS-L31 for Huawei P9 Lite).
- Product Serial number – you must enter the serial number you find in the Settings menu> About phone> Status of your smartphone.
- Product IMEI or MEID – you have to enter the IMEI code you find in the Settings> Info menu on your smartphone phone. If you have a dual-SIM terminal, type the IMEI of the primary SIM.
- Product ID – you have to enter the code that appears by typing the combination * # * # 1357946 # * # * in the dialer of your smartphone (ie in the dialing screen of the phone number).
- Verification code – you must copy the verification code you see in the box adjacent to this field.
After completing the form, click on the Commit button and you will see the unlocking password unlocked at the bottom of the page.
How to unlock Huawei
Now you can move on to the actual unlock of the bootloader. Then connect your smartphone to the computer using a USB cable (make sure the USB debugging is active) and allow communication between the two devices responding affirmatively to the warning that appears on Android. Put the check mark next to the option to authorize the computer permanently and not having to repeat the operation in the future.
Then run the executable _EN_LOC.bat of Huawei Multi-Tool on your PC (you find it in the folder where you extracted the program previously), wait for the Command Prompt to appear and select the Bootloader option from the Huawei Multi-Tool menu typing number 1 and giving Enter.
How to unlock Huawei
Next, type 1 again and press Enter to select the I have an unlock code option; press the space bar to skip the screen that opens; press 4 to choose to type the code manually (Enter manually); type in the bootloader unlock code you got from the Huawei site and press Enter.
After this step too, press 1 and Enter to restart the device in fastboot mode (a mode required to unlock the bootloader), use the volume keys to highlight the Yes option, unlock bootloader on your phone, confirm using the Power button and wait for the operation to complete. If all goes well, within a few seconds the smartphone will reboot in fastboot mode and will be reset to factory status. At the end of the operation, choose whether or not to save the bootloader unlock code in the cloud by typing y or n in the Prompt.
How to unlock Huawei
If you can not unlock the bootloader because the phone does not reboot in fastboot mode, try revoking the USB debugging permissions by going to the Settings> Developer Options menu and reconnecting the smartphone to the PC before giving it on the restart screen in fastboot mode.
If the procedure is not successful, try installing the Huawei drivers through Huawei Multi-Tool by starting the executable _EN_LOC.bat and typing first 0 (Above all thing option) and then 1 (Install Huawei drivers option).

How to unlock Huawei – Installing a custom Recovery
The second step you need to take before running the actual root is to install a custom Recovery. I recommend TWRP, which is very easy to use and allows you to install the files needed to run the root in just a few taps.
To install TWRP on your smartphone Huawei, start the executable _EN_LOC.bat of Huawei Multi-Tool and type in the first number 4 (Root permission option) and then the numbers 2 (I have not a custom recovery option) and 1 (My bootloader is unlocked).
How to unlock Huawei
Now, if your device is among those officially supported by Huawei Multi-Tool, first enter the number 8 (Install TWRP option), then the number 1 (Partition Recovery option) and finally the number corresponding to the Huawei terminal in your possession (es 40 for Huawei P8 Lite).
If, however, your device is not among those officially supported by Huawei Multi-Tool, proceed in this way: press the 1 key to invoke the option Install users Recovery from folder / USER / RECOVERY, copy the img file TWRP in the folder that opens and proceed with the installation of the recovery by selecting the Partition Recovery mode, answering y to the reboot request in fastboot mode and waiting for the end of the procedure.
If you do not know where to get the exact TWRP image for your smartphone model, search on Google “TWRP [your smartphone model]” (eg TWRP VNS-L31 for Huawei P9 Lite). In any case, the image created by TeamWin is available for P9 Lite.
How to unlock Huawei – Please root on Huawei
Once the bootloader is unlocked, you need to install the SuperSU package, which is then the one that allows you to run applications with root permissions on Android.
If your smartphone is among those officially supported by Huawei Multi-Tool, proceed as follows: start the executable _EN_LOC.bat and type in the first number 4 (Root permission option) and then the numbers 1 (I have a custom recovery option) and 2 (Installation for a particular model option).
How to unlock Huawei
Then enter the code for your smartphone model and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the procedure.
If, however, your smartphone is not among those officially supported by Huawei Multi-Tool, download the SuperSU package that best suits your device and the version of Android installed on it (search “SuperSU [model of your smartphone]”, es SuperSU VNS-L31 for Huawei P9 Lite, on Google) and copy it to a device folder using the Windows File Explorer.
Finally, restart the phone in Recovery mode (while pressing the combination Power + Volume (+) or Power + Volume (-)), slide the lever at the bottom of the TWRP home screen and press the Install button first, then on the name of the zip package that contains SuperSU.
Then scroll the lever at the bottom of the screen to start the installation of SuperSU and press first on the button to clear cache and dalvik and then on that to restart the phone (Reboot system).
How to unlock Huawei
When you start Android again, among the apps installed on your device, you will also find SuperSU and then you will be able to install all the applications that need root permissions.
If you need some more information on how to root on Android and what can be nice with it, see the tutorial I wrote on the subject.
